Investor Action for Gender Parity

Each year, International Women’s Day serves as an opportunity to commemorate the women’s rights movement and to accelerate implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda, specifically goal 5 “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” and goal 4 “ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.”

The theme for this year, which will be celebrated on March 8th, is #pressforprogress.

Lois is a senior analyst with the ETF Analytics group at FactSet Research Systems. The team maintains and develops ETF industry-leading research, data and analytics products. Prior to joining FactSet in March of 2017, she spent 22 years working with regional broker-dealers and their financial advisors in establishing their ETF due diligence process and platforms, in addition to providing educational and sales strategy guidance. Lois graduated from the Southern Illinois University with a BS in Business Management. 

Investment Manager, CALPERS 

James Andrus is an Investment Manager in Global Equity. CalPERS’ is the largest public pension system in the United States with approximately $350 billion in global assets. James leads the legal and regulatory financial market agenda focused on data and corporate reporting transparency.

He is a member of the Disclosure and Transparency Committee of International Corporate Governance Network. Prior to joining CalPERS in 2014, James served as a Corporate Partner at the law firm K&L Gates where he formed alternative investment funds and led mergers and acquisitions in the technology and gaming industry. While at K&L Gates, James also served as the President of the King County Bar Association representing more than 14,000 lawyers in Seattle/King County. James began his legal work as a Finance Associate with Mayer Brown in Houston and began his professional career as a Quartermaster Captain in the United States Army.

In community service, James served on the Board of Pioneer Human Services for 9 years. Pioneer is a $100,000,000 social entrepreneurship organization and operates companies that assist people with criminal histories in productively returning to society. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Central Washington Business School.

James is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law in 1995 and the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987.

Kiersten Salander Barnet is Deputy Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Bloomberg LP, the leading global provider of financial data, analytics, news and media. In this capacity, Kiersten collaborates on key business and internal initiatives, corporate communications and strategic partnerships. Kiersten also manages Bloomberg's Gender Equality Index, a first-of-its-kind performance barometer for gender equality at publicly held organizations. The BGEI provides investors with comparative information on gender equality across internal company statistics, employee policies, external community support and engagement, and gender-conscious product offerings. Kiersten joined Bloomberg in October 2005 and has worked with colleagues and clients in over 30 countries. She is a Strategy Officer of the World Economic Forum, representing Bloomberg in the Media, Entertainment and Information Industry Group and is also a member of the World Economic Forum's Gender Parity Steering Committee. In 2014 Kiersten helped launch the U.S. 30% Club, a group of nearly 75 chairmen and CEOs committed to better gender balance at senior management and board levels. She was subsequently appointed the country lead and Chair of the U.S. Steering Committee. Kiersten sits on the Executive Women’s Council and is a member of W.O.M.E.N. in America. Kiersten holds a B.S. in Business Management from Washington and Lee University and is a recipient of the University’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
Head of Impact and Screening Research, MSCI ESG Research

Meggin Thwing Eastman is Head of Impact and Screening Research for MSCI ESG Research, which includes business alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, controversies, global norms, and involvement in controversial business activities such as tobacco, weapons, and fossil fuel extraction. Meggin develops models and authors insights and guidance for asset owner and asset managers seeking to incorporate ESG considerations into their investment process. Recent publications include The Tipping Point: Women on Boards and Financial Performance, Has Gender Parity Arrived in the Executive Suite?, and Fossil Fuel Divestment: A Practical Introduction.

Meggin has worked in the ESG field since joining the former KLD Research & Analytics in 1998. Prior to her current role, she was responsible for MSCI’s ESG methodologies, and before that she led teams of ESG ratings analysts and was MSCI ESG Research’s lead technology sector analyst. She joined MSCI with the acquisition of RiskMetrics in 2010, following RiskMetrics’s acquisition of KLD in 2009. At KLD she led a team of technology sector analysts for several years.

Meggin served as co-chair of the Sustainable Investment Research Analyst Network (SIRAN) Steering Committee from 2014-2015. She holds a BA in Spanish and Asian Studies from Williams College and an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

ESG Analyst, Asset Stewardship, State Street Global Advisors

Caitlin McSherry is an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) analyst on the Asset Stewardship team at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA). In this capacity, she manages SSGA’s global proxy voting guidelines and activities and engages with companies on ESG topics.

Prior to joining SSGA in 2016, Caitlin worked in the energy sector developing utility-scale renewable energy projects. Caitlin earned a bachelor‘s degree in environmental studies from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in sustainability and environmental management from Harvard Extension School.
