Cynthia Plouche
Mutual Fund Board Trustee
Northern Institutional Funds/Northern Funds & Barings Funds Trust

Ms. Plouché is an experienced Mutual Fund Board Trustee for more than fifteen years with over twenty-five years of experience as a Senior Investment Portfolio Manager. A veteran board director, she represents the interests of shareholders with her in-depth financial and governance expertise in a highly regulated industry. Since 2014, Ms. Plouché has been a Mutual Fund Independent Trustee for the Northern Institutional Funds/Northern Funds in Chicago. She is the Governance Committee Chair and has board oversight for portfolio assets that exceed $140 billion and include fixed income, money market and equity securities. In 2017, she became an Independent Trustee of the Barings Funds Trust, a mutual fund complex, as well as the Barings Global Short Duration High Yield Fund, a closed-end fund. The Trust was established in 2013 by Barings LLC, an affiliate of MassMutual. Ms. Plouché is a Member of the Governance Committee.

Ms. Plouché started her corporate board career in 2001 with AXA Premier VIP Trust in New York. For many years she was the Lead Independent Trustee and Audit Committee Chair, overseeing portfolio assets that exceed $20 Billion. Shares of the Trusts are sold only to insurance company separate accounts in connection with variable life and annuity insurance products. In 2017, funds were consolidated into a larger fund group with an existing board.

Recently, Ms. Plouché was recognized among 20 female public company board directors nationwide in “Directors to Watch 2017” in Directors & Boards Magazine. She also holds a Wharton MBA and a Harvard University undergraduate degree.


Laura Lutton
Director of Manager Research Practice, North America

Laura Lutton is director of manager research for equity strategies, North America. She also oversees the global research that supports the Parent ratings and Stewardship Grades for mutual fund firms. These ratings consider five areas of governance and contribute to a fund’s Morningstar Analyst Rating™. Lutton was instrumental in developing Morningstar’s Target-Date Fund Series Ratings and Reports and the Morningstar Analyst Rating. She is also a founding member of Morningstar’s Women’s Initiative and co-chairs the group’s professional development committee.

Before assuming her current role, Lutton served as Morningstar’s director of fund-of-funds research and chair of the Manager Research team’s editorial committee, which oversaw all fund analysis at the firm. She joined Morningstar in 1999 as an equity analyst and moved to the fund research team in 2001. Before joining Morningstar, Lutton was the Chicago bureau chief for American Banker.

Lutton holds a bachelor’s degree in government and international studies from Colby College and a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

Nadia Papagiannis
Director of Alternative Investment Strategy for Global Third Party Distribution

Nadia Papagiannis, CFA is the director of alternative investment strategy for Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s global third-party distribution. In this role, she leads the firm’s alternatives education and thought leadership initiative, with a focus on liquid alternatives.

Prior to joining GSAM in 2014, she served as the director of alternative fund research at Morningstar, Inc. There, she managed a team of three alternative investment research analysts and covered the alternative mutual fund industry. She also created and edited Morningstar’s quarterly alternatives newsletter, Alternative Investments Observer. Before joining Morningstar in 2005, Papagiannis was a senior compliance examiner at NASD (now FINRA) and an auditor at the National Futures Association (NFA).

Papagiannis holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and French from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Papagiannis also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In 2011, Institutional Investor selected her as one of the publication’s Rising Stars of Mutual Funds. In 2017, The Hedge Fund Journal selected her as one of the publication’s 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds.
